BACK TO SCHOOL & THE DOG DAYS OF BASEBALL SEASON

Summer's over.
The kiddies go back to school today.
Baseball playoffs are less than a month away.
The frontrunners in each division are separating themselves from the
rest of the pack.
With just over 20 games remaining, the top dogs have to bear-down because every win or loss is crucial.
The HBWHOF LOVES this time of year.

Even though the Oakland A's are out of the playoff picture, I'm sticking with them until the end of the season because I've grown attached to their game-to-game trials & tribulations.
I'm a huge fan of the Oakland A's wives - and, subsequently, their ballpayer-husbands.
Thus, I will be following the fortunes of Brandon McCarthy, David DeJesus, Scott Sizemore & Co. for the duration...
On Labour Day, the A's and Royals were trading the lead back-and-forth until the final inning. The score was tied 6-6 until the Royals came to bat in the top of the 9th. Kansas City scored 5 runs to defeat the A's 11-6.
Billy Butler led the Royals offence, hitting two homers and 3 RBIs.
Scotty Sizemore hit a dinger and 3 RBIs for Oakland...

The Boston Red Sox lost Josh Beckett with a gimpy right ankle and lost the game in extra innings.
Beckett left in the 4th inning after feeling pain in his ankle and, to add insult to injury, rookie third-baseman Brett Lawrie cranked the first game-winning, walkoff homer of his career to give the Toronto Blue Jays a 1-0 win in the 11th inning.
