We have, once again, witnessed a Justin Verlander start with no run support.
JV pitched 7 solid innings, allowed 1 run and fired 8 Ks.
Detroit's lone run came at the beginning of the game, courtesy of an Austin Jackson homer.
After that - the bats were dead.
In the bottom of the 9th, with 2 outs, the score tied 1-1, and Phil Coke on the mound, Rangers' skipper Ron Washington sent a 23-year-old rookie to the plate.
Mike Olt, who was just called-up on August 1st from the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders, forced Coke to throw 9 pitches before he belted a single past a diving Miggy into left field to score Nelson Cruz and beat the Tigers 2-1.
A few miles down I-94, Brandon Inge made a diving stop on an Alex Rios' hit and dislocated his shoulder. He grabbed his arm and popped it back into place and stayed in the game.
An inning later Inge delivered the go-ahead single for the Oakland A's in a 9-7 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
"I was surprised he stayed in the game. He felt like the shoulder may have come out of the socket and went back in. He stayed in, made a great play on the double play and ends up getting what ends up being the biggest hit. We all know he's a very tough guy and can play through a lot of pain."
