JV'S BACK...SO IS MAC

Justin Verlander pitched a nice game Friday night.
JV went 7 shutout innings, allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and notched 6 strikeouts.
The Tigers beat the Tribe 4-0.

A's pitcher Brandon McCarthy, fresh off brain surgery, visited the Athletics clubhouse before Friday night's game between the A's and the O's.
The Oakland players came off the field from batting practice to find McCarthy doing a crossword puzzle.
The surprise visit motivated a team that's already firing on all cylinders.
Yoenis Cespedes hit a two-run homer to help the A's beat the Orioles 3-2.

“We had an idea that he was going to be here today. … We filtered in after BP and he was up here, hanging out, doing the crossword. I told him he should fill in the crossword and put a bunch of letters backward and give it to (trainer Nick Paparesta) and ask if it was good. He said, ‘I’ll just fill every space with a smiley face and ask him if I got it right.’ It was really fun. He’s still the same old guy. Everybody’s really excited to see him. I think he was very excited to see us. There’s just nothing that compares to the clubhouse atmosphere, just having him back and being around the guys. It’s hard to beat that. He looks normal. He’s just got a buzzed head and a cool scar. He looks a lot tougher than he did."
