MARATHON IN THE BIZARRO DIVISION...INGE IS A HITTING MACHINE...HAMELS VS HARPER

On Sunday, I wrote about the Bizarro scenario in the AL East.
To emphasize the point, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox 9-6 in a 17 inning game that lasted 6 hours and 7 minutes.
If that's not Bizarro enough - get this:
Boston and Baltimore used 9 pitchers each.
After both teams used all their relievers, the Red Sox put outfielder Darnell McDonald on the mound.
The Orioles countered with DH Chris Davis.
As the designated hitter Davis went 0 for 8, striking out five times.
As the closing pitcher Davis tossed 2 shutout innings, allowed 2 hits, 1 walk, fired 2 Ks and got the win.
It was the first major league game since 1925 in which each club put a position player on the mound.

The last time two teams brought in position players to pitch in the same game was Oct. 4, 1925, when Hall of Famers Ty Cobb of Detroit and George Sisler of the St. Louis Browns closed out the second game of a doubleheader on the last day of the season, according to STATS LLC.
Adam Jones hit a three-run homer in the top of the 17th to win the game for the O's.

Brandon Inge had a homer and 4 RBIs to help the Oakland A's defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-5.

Cole Hamels was fined and given a 5-game suspension for intentionally throwing at Bryce Harper in the 1st inning of the Philadelphia Phillies 9-3 win over the Washington Nationals.
Hamels' mistake was admitting the act afterwards:
"I was trying to hit him. I'm not going to deny it...It's just welcome to the big leagues."
