FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU

It was bound to happen.
But why did it have to happen to Justin Verlander?
Verlander had pitched 8 innings of 1-hit baseball. He had a 2-0 lead and had thrown only 81 pitches. He entered the 9th and everything turned to shit.
Verlander allowed a leadoff single to pinch-hitter Jeff Keppinger. Then Desmond Jennings hit another single. Carlos Pena walked and ball four was a wild pitch that scored Keppinger. Evan Longoria then hit another single that tied the game 2-2.
Verlander was done. Daniel Schlereth came in and issued a walk. Jose Valverde came in and served-up a walk and a two-run single.
Game over. Rays beat the Tigers 4-2.
Verlander gets the loss.
So, Justin Verlander has started two games. On Opening Day he threw 8 shutout innings against the Red Sox - then the Big Potato blew the lead.
Today, he threw 8 shutout innings and his final line was 8.1 innings, 4 hits,
4 runs, 2 walks and 7 Ks. His record is 0-1.
To add insult to injury - former Tiger Fernando Rodney got the save by stifling the heart of the batting order - Cabrera, Fielder and Peralta.
