REMEMBRANCE DAY

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

- Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

VICTORIA'S SECRET & THE GREATEST HOCKEY PHOTO EVER

So, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show happened.
Every year, just before Christmas, Victoria's Secret designs a $1,000,000 bejewelled bra and throws it on one of their smokin' hot models for all too see - then they get a major network to televise their runway extravaganza...

Sports Illustrated released, what they claim, are the 100 Greatest Sports Photos of All Time.
The highest ranking hockey photograph is this...

It's a picture of Wayne Gretzky scoring his 802nd career goal. It came in at #9 on the list.
C'mon SI! THIS is the greatest hockey photo? What a Clown Show!!!
When you think of iconic hockey images - you think of these...

That's just a really WEAK effort by Sports Illustrated. Complete FAIL.
Geez, that's not even the best Gretzky photo ever...

GAME 3 - SAME OLD STORY

Game 3: Giants 2 - Tigers 0
Ryan Vogelsong and Tim Lincecum made Detroit batters look silly. Hang on to your hats because San Francisco's ace is on the bump tonight - Matt Cain vs Max Scherzer at 8:07 PM

The sad thing is, aside from Justin Verlander, Detroit pitching has been good. Doug Fister and Anibal Sanchez both pitched great games.
The Tigers defense is lackluster and their hitting is MIA.
Last night featured the second worse big league at-bat I have ever witnessed.
In Quintin Berry's third at-bat he looked like exactly what he is - someone who does not belong at the major league level.
The ONLY at-bat that I've ever seen that was more pathetic was a few years back when Bartolo Colon was with the Red Sox and had to grab a bat vs the Cubs in Wrigley Field. Dude swung three times, spun around 360 degrees and lost his batting helmet!
This cat has been stellar...

There was an interesting article in Saturday's Detroit Free Press about the Tigers 1984 World Series Championship.
Tom Giftos, who is NOW the president of National Coney Island, was a high school senior who painted tiger stripes on his face and joined the fan swarm on Tiger Stadium's field after Detroit beat San Diego. Giftos was photographed while bare-chested with two police officers holding him by the arms and a piece of ballpark sod draped over his head. Giftos attended the game with school buddy Frank Germack III, now owner of Germack Pistachio in Detroit; they sat along the first base line 20 rows back. The pair summoned "enough bravado to vault over the fence" and stormed the field, where stationed police were quickly overwhelmed and outnumbered. Giftos remembers reaching down toward the turf, following someone else's lead, and grabbing the grass to pull it loose. He lost his shirt, he said, by wriggling away from the grasps of multiple police officers.

Anyone who remembers the 1984 championship will vividly recall the most famous depiction of Detroit after the Tigers captured the title - Kenneth (Bubba) Helms, hoisting a Tigers pennant in front of a burning police car at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. Good 'ol Bubba died in 2001 in Tennessee of an intentional drug overdose due to depression...

GAME 1 - NOT SO GOOD

You all witnessed what went down in Game 1.
Barry Zito out-pitched Justin Verlander.
Kung Fu Panda cranked 3 dingers! Pablo Sandoval joined Babe Ruth , Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols as the only players to hit 3 homers in a World Series game! The Giants smoked the Tigers 8-3.

[These AWESOME designs - as well as the previous #RallyZito, #RallyVogey and #RallyCain grahic designs - that have been featured in the HBWHOF are the work of The City Graphics]

Game 7 - #RallyCain

You kids know what's goin' down.
The St. Louis Asshats had a 3-1 series lead over the San Francisco Giants until the #RallyZito movement inspired Barry Zito to pitch a 5-0 shutout and narrow the Asshats lead to 3-2.

Next in the Giants rotation was Ryan Vogelsong.
#RallyVogey motivated Vogelsong to pitch 7 innings, allow a mere 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and notch 9 Ks to defeat the Asshats 6-1 and tie the NLCS 3-3.

Tonight, kids, it's Game 7. Matt Cain is on the hill. Say it with me: #RallyCain...

#RallyZito and The Awesome Power of Social Media

My friends, never underestimate the awesome power of social media.
Last night the #RallyZito movement took over Twitter.
With the San Francisco Giants sitting one loss away from elimination in the NLCS, legions of fans put aside their social media identities to embrace a new one.
Giants fans en masse adopted avatars of Barry Zito and bombarded the Twitterverse with the #RallyZito hashtag.
It worked! Last night's version of Barry Zito was reminiscent of the hurler who won 23 games and the 2002 AL Cy Young Award with the Athletics.

Zito pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and fired 6 Ks in a 5-0 shutout of the St. Louis Asshats.

Next up - Ryan Vogelsong and Matt Cain.
#RallyVogey & #RallyCain! Beat those Asshats!!

TIGERS WIN THE AL PENNANT

A 4-game sweep of the New York Yankees to win the American League title.
A trip to the World Series.
Max ' K-Commando' Scherzer goes 5 2/3 innings, allows 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and notches 10 Ks.
Phil 'Lights Out' Coke pitches 2 innings of no-hit baseball to close the deal.
Austin Jackson, Miggy and Jhonny Peralta go YARD.
The Tigers SMOKE the Yankees 8-1.
Delmon 'Yankees Killer' Young becomes the first player with 4 game-winning RBIs in one postseason series...and, subsequently, becomes the ALCS MVP.
Detroit wins their 11th American League pennant.
Today was a GOOD day.

LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN...

Let's try this again. Max Scherzer vs CC Sabathia at 4 PM.
