PERFECTO DENIED...MORE SUGGERS
This is why baseball is such a great game.
The day after baseball's official Opening Day, Texas Rangers hurler Yu Darvish came within one out of a Perfect game.
Darvish had 2 outs in the 9th inning without allowing anyone to reach base and to top it off - he had struck out 14 Houston Astros. But it was not to be.
One out away from his Perfecto, Marwin Gonzalez grounded a clean single through Darvish's legs to spoil the Perfect game and the No-hitter.
Darvish's 14 strikeouts matched a Minute Maid Park record and were the most by a Rangers pitcher since Nolan Ryan had 14 in July 1991 against the Angels.
The HBWHOF is on a bit of a Rhian Sugden love-fest this week...

A ROLEX FROM THE KING. KOUFAX BACK ON THE HILL. RHIAN SUGDEN.
I'm sure readers are aware that Felix Hernandez scored a 7-year, $175 million contract extension with the Seattle Mariners during the offseason.
When you're rolling in that kind of coin you don't need to shop at Walmart.
So, to show his appreciation to teammates for their help in his Perfect Game last August, 'King' Felix handed out Rolex watches. The watches were inscribed with "Perfect Game - 8/15/12."
One was delivered to opponent and former teammate John Jaso who is, now, playing for the Oakland Athletics.
Then, Hernandez went out and tossed 7 2/3 shutout innings, striking-out 8 batters to beat the A's 2-0.
The Dodgers brought out Sandy Koufax to throw the first pitch on Opening Day.
One of my favourite British babes, Rhian Sugden, has been posting some Instagram pics that are off-the-chain...

RIP VIRGIL TRUCKS
Virgil Trucks has passed away at 95 years of age.
Trucks and Justin Verlander are the only Tigers pitchers to throw two no-hitters.
He won a World Series with the Tigers in 1945. Trucks tossed his two no-nos during the 1952 season.
Virgil Trucks pitched for the Tigers, St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Athletics and New York Yankees.

RYAN PERRY & FUTURE HALL OF FAMER VP
Remember Ryan Perry?
He's a member of the Washington Nationals organization now.
I REALLY want this guy to succeed. I liked him in the 'D' and I like him with the Nats.
The cat's got a good arm...and an amazing fiancée - who, mark my words, will soon be inducted into the Hot Baseball Wife Hall of Fame. This, my friends, is Ryan's bride-to-be - Vanessa Palestino...

MARIANO RIVERA
This will be the final season to enjoy the artistic stylings of Mariano Rivera.
The final #42 has announced he's hanging up the cleats after the 2013 season.
Never has one man done so much damage with a single weapon. Mo built a Hall of Fame career on a cut fastball.
