BIG DEALS - BUT THE BIGGEST IS KIM'S RETURN

WOWEE!! The big MLB news is the signing of a couple of big names.
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County of California of the Pacific Rim have JUST signed Albert Pujols to a $254 million, 10-year contract!!!
But wait, that's not all, the Angels have also signed pitcher C.J. Wilson to a deal reportedly worth $75 million for 5 years.

The Miami Marlins?? have a new manager in Ozzie Guillen and have signed pitcher Mark Buehrle to a 4-year deal worth $58 million. They also signed shortstop Jose Reyes to a 6-year, $106 million deal and closer Heath Bell to a 3-year, $27 million deal.

The big news, here, at the HBWHOF, however, is that Kimberly DeJesus is going home!
Yep, the first big move that new Cubbies' GM Theo Epstein made was to sign David DeJesus to a 2-year, $10 million deal.

The HBWHOF is thrilled that my favourite Hot Baseball Wife is returning to Chicago!

JV WINS MVP!!!

Congratulations to Justin Verlander who just captured the AL MVP Award!
Verlander became the first starting pitcher in a quarter-century, and the first Tigers player since 1984, to win the award.

A VERY SAD DAY AT THE HBWHOF

First Francona, then Epstein and, now, the worst of all...Heidi Watney's leaving NESN to do - of all things - Lakers' games...

VERLANDER WINS AL CY YOUNG

Congratulations to Justin Verlander as the unanimous choice for the American League Cy Young Award.
JV becomes the Tigers' first Cy Young winner since Guillermo Hernandez
in 1984.
He's the first Tigers' starting pitcher to win it since Denny McLain in 1969.
Verlander topped all AL pitchers with 24 wins, a 2.40 ERA and 250 strikeouts, becoming the first Tigers' hurler to capture the pitching Triple Crown since Hal Newhouser in 1945!!

THE THING THAT WOULDN'T DIE

That was a great ballgame.
Game 7 of the World Series will be tonight.
Those freakin' Cardinals won't die.
St. Louis was down to their last strike of the season - TWICE - and each time they found a way to comeback.
David Freese hit a walkoff homer in the bottom of the 11th to beat Texas
10-9.

That's the last RACK-OFF! of the 2011 season. What a way to end it!
Don't worry, the HBWHOF is not going to leave you empty-handed.
I've got a special treat.

RACK-OFF!

This week's RACK-OFF! is Racks on the Rocks.
You know the drill. Place your votes in the box in the upper, right-hand corner...

Rocks #1

Rocks #2

RACK-OFF! WINNER

The winner of last week's RACK-OFF! was Adrianne Curry's Laptop Rackage which garnered 56% of the popular vote...

HO HUM

Wind chill and a possibility of rain for tonight's October classic.
Gee, go figure!
There's no Yankees. No Red Sox. No Phillies. No Cubs (Once, again,
go figure!).
...And because there are no big market teams in the Fall Classic - the television ratings will probably hit an all-time low...
The HBWHOF is, obviously, pulling for the representative from the American League.
Go Texas!

PRINCE WILL GET A KING'S RANSOM

The World Series begins tomorrow. Game 1 is Wednesday at 8:05 PM.
C.J. Wilson vs Chris Carpenter from Busch Stadium.

Where do you think this guy will go? Are the Yankees going to be in the bidding? New York already has a $180 million first baseman in Mark Teixeira. Fielder will probably get more than that...he's a 27 year old, moonshot-beltin' free agent and his former team can't afford him...

SPORTS KINDA SUCKED THIS WEEKEND

Golly gee, what a crappy weekend!
First the Tigers got eliminated by the Rangers.
Then, on Sunday, the Lions lost their 1st game of the season.
The 49ers beat the Lions 25-19 and the postgame coaches-handshake turned into a minor skirmish.
San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh was a bit too pumped for Jim Schwartz' liking when they exchanged pleasantries after the 49ers win. Schwartz chased Harbaugh back toward the tunnel and players on both teams got involved in some shoving.
Supposedly, Schwartz was upset about some expletives that accompanied the Harbaugh handshake and slap-on-the-back.

Then, to wrap-up a brutal weekend, the freakin' Cardinals are going to the World Series!
St. Louis beat Milwaukee 12-6 to eliminate the Brewers.
I hate the Cards and everything they stand for...

A ROUGH NIGHT

Imagine getting beat-up by your "little brother" over-and-over...
MSU beat Michigan 28-14.
That's 4 years straight, man!
Can you say "Quadruple Paul Bunyan?"

The Detroit Tigers 2011 season has come to an end.
The Texas Rangers clobbered the Tigers 15-5 to win the American League pennant.
There's no need for me to go into the miserable details...I'm sure no one wants to re-live the nightmare. Suffice it to say that the Tigers had an excellent season and the Rangers deserve to be in the World Series...and, hopefully, win it.
I can't stand the St. Louis Cardinals...and Texas has NEVER won a World Series. They were on the losing-end last year when the Giants captured their first WS in 56 years.
It's Texas' turn to win the whole enchilada! They've been stymied for A LONG TIME - they began as the Washington Senators, became the Minnesota Twins in 1961 and, finally, the Texas Rangers in 1971!
Nelson Cruz was the ALCS MVP after cranking 6 homers and 13 RBIs over the 6 games!
Miguel Cabrera went YARD twice!
Great season Tigers...Good luck Rangers.

Gratuitous Rangers chicks pics...

A BIG WIN

JV came through.
Justin Verlander pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowed 8 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks and struck out 8 Texas batters.
The Tigers beat the Rangers 7-5.
Yesterday, I was lamenting the lack of hitting by the Detroit lineup...on Thursday night, the Tigers racked-up 10 hits. Ryan Raburn, Delmon Young and, even,
Alex Avila went DEEP! Young hit two!! Detroit was hitting so well that, in the 6th inning, they cranked a single, double, triple and homer - in order! It was the 1st time four consecutive batters on one team hit for a "natural" cycle in a postseason game!! How's that for HOT bats!!!
With Jose Valverde and Joaquin Benoit unavailable, Leyland used Phil Coke as his closer. Coke got his first career postseason save.
It was a HUGE win for Detroit.
The one dark spot was they, again, refused to intentionally walk Nelson Cruz???
The result - Cruz hit his 5th home run of the series!!!!
The Tigers stay alive and head back to Texas.
Game 6: Max Scherzer vs Derek Holland at 8:05 PM on Saturday.

Guess who was the first guy to the top of the dugout steps, after Alex Avila hit a home run?

A MUST WIN & THE STATE OF THE NATION

The Texas Rangers lead the ALCS 3-1.
The reason: Detroit's NOT hitting.
The Tigers are getting great pitching. On Monday, Max Scherzer went 6 innings. The game was tied 3-3 until Nelson Cruz hit a grand slam in the 11th inning.
On Tuesday, Doug Fister pitched a 7 1/3 inning gem and kept the Rangers potent lineup in the dirt all night. The Tigers won 5-2...because their hitters couldn't do anything with Fister's sinkers. On Wednesday night, Rick Porcello went 6 2/3 innings and the score was, once again, tied 3-3 until Nelson Cruz cranked a 3-run homer to give the Rangers a 7-3 lead.
Verlander keeps getting rained on - so he can't get a quality start.
So, Detroit starters went 6, 7 1/3 and 6 2/3 innings over the last 3 games and allowed a total of 7 earned runs. Over those last 3 games, Texas starters went
2 2/3, 5 2/3 and 5 innings and allowed 9 earned runs.
Clearly, the Tigers' starters are kicking ass!
So, Detroit has the better pitching.
Over the past 4 games the Tigers have accumulated 28 hits...the Rangers have put up 39 hits!
Last night, the ONLY dude in the Rangers' lineup without a hit was Adrian Beltre - and he's got a legitimate excuse since his legs are black & blue from Fister's bullets fouling off his stems!! Last night, Austin Jackson, Delmon Young,
Don Kelly, Alex Avila, Jhonny Peralta and Ramon Santiago put up ZEROS!!
When half of your lineup goes hitless, you're not going to win a playoff game.
The Detroit bats need to wake-up.
...and you can't blame the losses on Leyland because he's made some remarkable decisions. Most managers wouldn't even have put Brandon Inge on the playoff roster after the anemic season he endured. Last night, Inge went YARD to keep the Tigers in it through extra innings! Leyland also stuck with Al Alburquerque, who escaped a bases-loaded jam in the 7th inning!!
Detroit MUST win their next 3 games - or their season is over.
This afternoon: Justin Verlander vs C.J. Wilson

They're going NUTS in Boston over the state of the Boston Red Sox!
Francona's gone. Now, Boston GM, Theo Epstein, is packing his bags to guide the Chicago Cubs. New reports claim that Red Sox starters Josh Beckett,
Jon Lester, and John Lackey sat in the clubhouse drinking beer, eating fast-food fried chicken, and playing video games while their teammates tried to salvage their season in September!!
It gets worse - Francona lost control of the club. He was living in a hotel after his 30-year marriage collapsed. And now...David Ortiz is talking about leaving Boston to play for the Yankees!!!
Oh, how I wish I was at the Roisin Dubh (The Black Rose) in Boston, sitting at the bar with a pint, wallowing in the cries of anguish...

RACK-OFF!

Today we've got a faceless RACK-OFF!
The RACK belongs to Adrianne Curry. You kids remember her? She was the first winner of America's Next Top Model and she WAS married to Peter Brady (Christopher Knight) from The Brady Bunch.
Adrianne is very fond of sending pics of her rackage via TWITTER.
Here's her latest - it's Laptop Rackage...

...vs Beach Bikini Rackage...

A TIE!

Geez, low voter turnout for RACK-OFF! last week!
Also, the voting ended in a dead heat - a tie between the always-popular
self-portrait...

...and the pose-for-the-sneaky-boyfriend...

TIGERS CLAWING THEIR WAY BACK

How about Dougie Fister?
7 1/3 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, no walks and 3 Ks for a 5-2 Tigers win.
Fister was pounding the strike zone with sinkers all night long. Adrian Beltre, in particular, took a beating because he kept fouling Fister's pitches off his legs. Beltre took one off the shin, thigh and knee - he got beat-up!

Austin Jackson went 3-for-5. Miguel Cabrera, Jhonny Peralta and Victor Marinez hit homers.
V-Mart strained his ribcage(oblique?) after going DEEP and it was evident when he, gingerly, rounded the bases.

Game 4: Today at 4:19 PM - Rick Porcello vs Matt Harrison.

At the HBWHOF it's Recycle Day, so to celebrate here's Claudia Verela...
